What has impacted me most is the situation in Veracruz because of how broken-down and abandoned I found my colleagues [there] to be.

La situación en Veracruz es lo que más me ha impactado, por el grado de descomposición y soledad en la que me encontré a los colegas.

To mark the first International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, IPI asked Daniela Pastrana about the current situation faced by journalists in Mexico and how impunity affected Mexican society as a whole.

Daniela Pastrana is one of the founders of Periodistas de a Pie, an organisation of Mexican journalists that looks for a social dimension to the news. She is a freelance journalist specialising in human rights, social movements and social policy, having previously worked for the newspapers Reforma, La Jornada and El Centro.
